The effects of a dysfunctional family on a child are not always evident until that child breaks free and goes out on their own.    Because they don’t have role models to teach them what to look for in a healthy relationship, they often are attracted to someone who will continue the abuse.  It seems that good or bad, we are drawn to that which is familiar.

Saving Nikki, is a novel based on the life of the author, Joyce Moseley Pierce.   Nikki gets through the divorce of her parents only to have her world turned upside down when her father remarries.  Her mother disappears and her father’s new wife becomes a wedge between Nikki, her father, and his family.   Without any encouragement or direction, Nikki is left to figure it out on her own.

She meets Anthony, who’s had some similar experiences.   He’s never known his father and has been abandoned by his mother.   She sees the pain in his eyes and believes their experiences have brought them together.     Being with him is exciting and at times frightening, but he is always there to rescue her when she needs him the most.   She wonders if he could be that one person in her life who won’t betray her.  She dreams that he will be the man to love her and never leave her, but how long will it take for her to know for sure?

“Nikki reminds me of Novalee Nation – the main character in Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts.   I couldn’t stop thinking about her long after I’d finished the novel.”  Felicia Shultz, Duluth, MN.

While Nikki’s story is suitable for teens because of its strong message about the importance of making good choices, it’s definitely a favorite with women of all ages.    Readers have commented that Joyce’s descriptions of those turbulent teenage years have caused them to reflect on their own.    With characters based on real people, the reader gets pulled into the story and wants to read more.

Saving Nikki is a realistic look at life through the eyes of a naïve young girl who learns that people aren’t always what they appear, and love doesn’t automatically lead to happily-ever-after.”   Marnie Pehrson, Best-Selling Author.

Saving Nikki is a gripping story of a young girl who builds a life of her own through making mistakes and taking responsibility for them.  It’s a story about making choices without the option of choosing the consequences.

You may contact Joyce to schedule interviews or to purchase quantities of the book.    She is also available for book club appearances.
